The Cranford Township Committee and police leadership on May 20 highlighted a police awards ceremony and cited the department’s recent reaccreditation by state law enforcement accreditation bodies.
Mayor Terrence Curran and police leadership praised the Cranford Police Department for securing reaccreditation on March 13, 2025, from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police and the New Jersey Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. The mayor called the reaccreditation an example of “the level of professionalism” in the force; Chief Nazaro and other officials recounted recent lifesaving responses and community service that underpinned the recognition.
Officials said the department has met more than 112 law enforcement standards tied to accreditation and that the department has been reaccredited multiple times; speakers noted the department was “one of the first in the state to be accredited.” The committee praised specific examples of officer actions, including removing firearms from the street, suicide‑prevention interventions and emergency medical responses.
The committee read a proclamation observing the week of May 11–17, 2025 as National Police Week and May 15, 2025 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, recognizing officers who have died or been injured in the line of duty. No formal policy changes or budgetary actions were announced at the meeting related to accreditation; remarks were ceremonial and commendatory.
