Lowell Observatory reports narrowing visitation declines; asteroid day and summer events planned

Heather Craig of Lowell Observatory presented the attractions report at the June 26 meeting, saying visitation declines have narrowed as the city moves into the summer monsoon season.
Craig said Flagstaff visitation excluding Grand Canyon National Park was down 5.7 percent compared with earlier months, a smaller decline than in March and April. She reported combined visitation including the Grand Canyon through April was down about 7.4 percent, and noted that Grand Canyon visitation for April was down about 2.29 percent compared with a 14 percent drop in March. Craig said the Grand Canyon’s April numbers were not yet in at the time of an earlier report.
Craig listed upcoming attractions and events: Lowell Observatory and Meteor Crater will host Asteroid Day on June 30; Arizona Snowbowl has opened summer activities including scenic and sunset gondola rides; and the Museum of Northern Arizona will hold its Heritage Festival of Arts and Culture on the 28th and 29th (as stated in the presentation). She thanked local partners for submitting visitation numbers and said the gap versus prior year is getting smaller as the season progresses.
