Visitor Center Express opens with soft launch; liquor license pending

The Flagstaff Tourism Commission heard that the Visitor Center Express has opened in a soft launch and is operating while staff finalize licensing and product. Jessica Johnson, visitor center manager, told commissioners the Express had been open about two weeks during a soft opening and staff are awaiting a liquor license before serving beer and wine.
Johnson said Jude Barrett is working weekdays at the new Express and Yovan is staffing weekends; staff have been able to help travelers with essentials and information, and Transportation Security Administration staff have expressed appreciation for the new location. Sales and walk‑in numbers remain down year over year, which Johnson and other presenters linked to a decline in international visitors and online routing messages that led some visitors to choose other weekend destinations.
The commission also heard that the Flagstaff Artisan's Market will continue on weekends through Labor Day; onsite vendors sell Native American artwork, candles and crafts at the train station platform. Johnson said a formal grand opening for the Visitor Center Express will be scheduled after product assortment and the liquor license are completed.
No formal commission action was taken; staff will continue operations and report updates at future meetings.
