Summary
A Ridgewood resident told the council there were three crashes in two weeks at the East Glen Avenue/Northern Parkway area and urged action. Resident Denise Lima told the Village Council she was calling attention to a cluster of collisions near East Glen Avenue and Northern Parkway, saying there had been three crashes in the prior two weeks and describing drivers approaching Maple Avenue at high speed down the East Glen hill.
Lima said Northern Parkway is a cut-through used by many high‑school students and urged the council and staff to "do something" to slow traffic and improve safety.
Village Manager (Keith) acknowledged the concerns, said Captain Ender had already been noted as taking action to review the placement of a speed sign on East Glen, and invited the resident to bring details to the Citizen Safety Committee meeting scheduled the next evening. The manager said the 2025 budget includes funding specifically for pedestrian-activated crosswalks on Glen Avenue and that staff would continue evaluating short-term traffic-calming measures.
Captain Ender (police) was described as taking notes and following up; the mayor and council encouraged the resident to attend the Citizen Safety Committee meeting to present crash locations and times so staff and police could prioritize countermeasures. Council members also pointed to capital investments in crosswalks and additional traffic-division staffing funded in the operating budget.
No ordinance or formal vote was taken at the meeting; staff were directed to review signage and present potential remedies to the safety committee and at a future council meeting if needed.
