The Finance Committee received written notice June 30 that the Retirees Health Alliance will cancel Medicare Advantage plans effective Jan. 1, 2026, and that county staff are seeking replacement coverage for affected retirees.
Committee chair read an email from Susan Ward reporting that the alliance will “cancel all plans as of 01/01/2026.” Ward wrote that staff are “working with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois at getting quotes for the 6 retirees currently enrolled” and that the county will contact each retiree to review the quotes. The message said Blue Cross Blue Shield can either bill the county monthly for Medicare plans or bill members directly depending on the county’s preference.
Committee members did not take formal action at the meeting; the update was informational and staff indicated they would follow up with individual retirees once quotes are available.
