CRA to host workshops, partner with Gulf County Legal Services and others for North Port St. Joe revitalization

Daryl Starling, CRA director, told the board the agency will hold workshops in North Port St. Joe to explain the developer incentive program and an interest-rate incentive program and to educate residents about program requirements and application processes.
Starling said the workshops will include partners from Gulf County Legal Services to support heirs-property issues and representatives from local recovery services. "We have some representatives from Gulf County Legal Services who want to partner with us for heirs property program," Starling said. He confirmed the next workshop was scheduled at 6 p.m. at the Washington Improvement Group facility.
Starling also updated the board on the "Generations" home-rehabilitation program: staff received 11 applicants and were arranging home inspections and contractor quotes. He said the application-to-contract process typically takes about three months and that finding contractors took longer than expected. Staff said Centennial Bank will help fund the Generations rehab program and that Kathy Gilbert has state dollars available to offset program costs.
Starling said the CRA is building a coalition of community organizations to support revitalization in the MLK Business District and North Port St. Joe and that the first public presentations and community engagement work would be reported back to the board in October if not at the next meeting.
