Braden Morgan of Glen Burnie High School took the oath of office and was sworn in as the student member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education at a ceremony attended by school leaders and county officials.
The swearing-in, administered by MK Fowler, chief deputy clerk of the circuit court, was introduced by Bob Mojo, chief communications officer for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Mojo said the system is “proud and honored to continue to be the only local school system in the nation with a student board member who has full voting rights.”
Braden Morgan thanked supporters and described preparing for the role since his selection on May 1. “I’m very excited and honored to be here,” Morgan said, and added, “thank you for trusting me to represent you.” He referenced family members, school staff and a campaign team by name during his remarks.
Mojo noted the office’s history, saying the county’s first student member served in 1974; he named Jeffrey Robinson of Andover High School as that first student member. The ceremony also included a presentation of a gubernatorial citation to Morgan, and Morgan signed the oath paperwork as part of the formalities. The transcript records Morgan beginning a one-year term; the ceremony did not record any formal board votes or policy actions.
The event concluded with photographs of Morgan and members of the Board of Education.
