Irvine council names Sean Crumby interim city manager; formal contract to return June 24

The Irvine City Council unanimously voted in closed session on June 3 to move forward with Sean Crumby as the city’s interim city manager, with formalization of interim services to be presented to the council in open session on June 24.

The action follows a short closed session called to discuss a public employee appointment under Government Code section 54957. After the council reconvened in open session, City Attorney Mr. Melchie reported: "During closed session, the city council voted unanimously to move forward with Sean Crumby as the interim city manager for the city. The formalization ... will occur in the meeting of June 24 when we will bring the grama for interim city manager services forward for open session consideration by the city council."

The council did not adopt an interim city manager services contract at the June 3 meeting; staff said the agreement will be returned on June 24 for open-session consideration. A member of the public provided live comment during the closed-session comment period recommending a different candidate; that comment was heard before the council entered closed session.
