HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — The City Council on Tuesday approved a set of labor contracts and compensation adjustments after extended negotiations, voting 6‑1 to adopt items that included wage and MOU updates for represented groups.
Councilmember Don Kennedy explained the negotiations were lengthy and difficult, involving months of bargaining and consideration of budget constraints. He and others described the outcome as a compromise that balances compensation with the city’s fiscal realities.
The contracts were described by council members as aligned with budget projections; the council voted 6‑1 to approve the grouped items (13, 14 and 15) after discussion of overall impacts and following presentations noting the city’s balanced approach to ongoing labor and union negotiations.
Councilmembers said the agreements set a foundation for future talks while recognizing the city’s structural budget challenges. The city manager and labor representatives were commended for achieving agreements within the current fiscal constraints.
The contracts will take effect under the negotiated terms and be administered by the human-resources and finance departments as part of the adopted fiscal-year budget.
