The Winton Woods City School Board approved a job description for a one-year, grant-funded community health worker position intended to increase use of the school-based health center and help families navigate barriers to services.
Superintendent Denny told the board the district secured a $103,000 grant to fund the position for one year. He said the role will help families with food insecurity, uniforms and other barriers and "specifically to help connect them with services and health care." Denny described the role as partly social work and partly medical advising and recommended the board approve the job description so the position can be posted.
Board members discussed community awareness of school-based health services and encouraged families to use the services for routine well-child checks and other needs. The motion to approve the job description passed unanimously.
