District reports high graduation rate, kindergarten registration activity and early success for Pathfinders mentoring program

District staff provided several operational updates at the June 30 meeting, highlighting enrollment activity, nutrition services and an early evaluation of a new mentoring initiative.

Staff reminded the board that kindergarten registration for the incoming class of 2038 remains open; the presenter said that the last known count was about 700 but that a data-system transition from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus has interrupted up-to-the-minute reporting and that schools are keeping manual records during the switch.

Summer meals continue June 9–20 at bus sites and community sites: East Flat Rock Park and Dana Community Park from 11 to 11:45 a.m., and Jackson Park Shelter No. 4 and Eddyville Community Center from noon to 12:45 p.m., staff said.

Administrators reported the district achieved the highest graduation rate in its history, with every high school over 90 percent in the preliminary spring data. Staff said the district will update cohort figures as additional summer data are finalized.

Staff also described early results from the Pathfinders mentoring program operating at East Henderson and Flat Rock. Preliminary tracking showed East Henderson reduced ninth‑grade retentions to zero this year after previously retaining roughly a dozen students annually; staff credited mentoring and multiple supports for the change. Staff said the district plans to solidify the model in one feeder zone before scaling to other feeders and that Maggie Gillum is running the initiative.

The reports were presented for information; the board did not take formal action on these items at the meeting.
