Harrisville — City staff told the Harrisville City Council on June 24 that Harrisville has received its certified tax rate and will advertise options for the council to consider at the July meeting, with further analysis to follow in August.
Staff said the city’s current rate is 0.001562 and that staff will prepare options that show how different rates would affect residents and city revenues. “We did receive our certified tax rate,” said a staff member. The staff member said the highest figures staff is preparing to advertise would be "$6.44" and about "$4.20 to $4.22 per year," as preliminary examples; the meeting record did not specify the tax base or units used for those dollar figures.
The nut graf: Advertising tax-rate options is the required early step in the property-tax-setting process and starts public notice obligations. Staff said they would publish options in July and return in August with revenue estimates and recommendations to ensure the city can meet long-term payments and obligations.
Council members were told staff will provide multiple options showing revenue impacts and recommended levels that would allow the city to cover bond and other long-term obligations. Staff did not present final advertised rate figures at the June 24 meeting and said they would provide clearer dollar impacts and sample property-tax calculations at a future meeting.
No vote or formal action was taken on the tax rate at the June 24 meeting; staff identified announcing/advertising options and preparing impact estimates as the next steps.
