Bayshore board elects Sue Gargan president, approves teacher and administrator agreements

The Bay Shore Union Free School District board elected Board Trustee Sue Gargan president and Board Trustee Andy Alcuri vice president during its reorganization meeting and approved protocols to place oaths of office on file and multiple consent-agenda items, including memorandum(s) of agreement with the district’s teachers and administrators.

The leadership nominations came as the board carried out its annual reorganization. The presiding officer said, "I'm going to nominate Sue Gargan to be the next president of the board." After a voice vote, the motion carried and Sue Gargan assumed the presidency. The presiding officer then called for a nomination for vice president and moved, "Make a motion that, Andy Alcuri be the vice president," which also carried on a voice vote.

The meeting recorded that oaths of office for board trustees, the school district treasurer, deputy treasurer, district clerk (pro tem) and superintendent were received and placed on file by board action. The board used consent agendas to approve a large set of routine items grouped under sections A (A1–A7), B (B1–B4), C (C1–C28), D (D1–D8) and E (E1–E9).

On the personnel and labor side, the board approved a memorandum of agreement between the district and the Bayshore Classroom Teachers Association and approved a separate memorandum of agreement with the Bayshore Administrators Association. The presiding officer noted that administrator and teacher contracts had been settled, saying, "We've settled, I think, administrators, teachers, so the powers, we settled a a number of contracts, so the year is off to a good start." The motions to ratify those agreements were made, seconded and carried.

The meeting also acknowledged a letter of recognition from the board to the superintendent thanking the superintendent for service; the letter was presented to the superintendent to read at leisure. The presiding officer welcomed the student member, David, noting it was his first meeting and expressing interest in hearing his contributions in the year ahead.

After completing the agenda items and approvals, the board moved into executive session.
