District reports student-wellness spending; board celebrates speech and debate and coach Hall of Fame selection

The Solon City Board of Education received the district’s annual report on spending from disadvantaged pupil impact aid and student‑wellness and success funds and heard several recognition items.

A district staff member reported that last year the student wellness and success funds were used only for allowable services and that at least 50% of student wellness and success funds are required by law to be spent on physical or mental health services. The district said funds for the prior year were used to cover salaries, benefits and contracted costs for social workers (including a contract with Belfair JCB); staff stated the plan is to continue using those funds for social worker expenses in FY26.

The board also celebrated competitive achievements: the middle‑ and high‑school speech and debate teams placed at national competitions, and Athletic Director Jim McQuade was named to the Ohio Coaches Association Hall of Fame class of 2026. Board members and staff praised students and coaches for national placements and McQuade’s career record and selection.
