Plano crews inspect aerial sewer lines to reduce storm sewage spills

"When severe thunderstorms strike, it's not just the rain and wind we prepare for. It's what those storms can leave behind," Stoler said. He said clearing debris now helps prevent emergencies later.
Stoler recounted a 2021 incident in which a large tree fell during a storm and washed out an 18-inch aerial crossing near Parker Road, causing a sewage spill, and said that is the kind of damage crews aim to prevent. "These lines play a critical role in moving wastewater away from homes and neighborhoods," he said.
Stoler described the work as a regular practice rather than a new program, saying city crews "regularly inspect and clear debris from aerial sewer lines, which are vulnerable to trees and branches that wash downstream during storms." He did not specify an inspection schedule or which city department runs the inspections.
The remarks were made during a brief informational segment called "Stoler on the Street." Stoler closed the segment by saying the city will continue the inspections and that residents can expect future updates.
