Finance Committee re-refers bill on unclean property thresholds to Judiciary Committee

A staff summary read to the committee stated simply, “The bill would increase thresholds for, unclean property.” Committee members discussed whether Finance or Judiciary was the appropriate venue; supporters of re-referral said the prime sponsor had worked with the judiciary chair and asked that the measure be considered by Judiciary. One staff member explained the package had been negotiated and “accidentally got sent to us,” and the committee agreed to re-refer the bill to Judiciary unanimously.
Committee members also noted the bill was worded as a Title 20 measure rather than under the tax-reform code, which supported the sponsor’s request to move the bill to Judiciary. The committee took no further action on the substance of the bill; the re-referral transfers responsibility for consideration to the Judiciary Committee.
