Longview to lead regional animal-control/sheltering RFP; most cities expected to join

Sheriff’s office staff told the board they are formalizing prior discussions with cities to issue a joint request for proposals for animal-control and animal-sheltering services.
Brad (Sheriff’s office) said Longview will take the lead in issuing a combined RFP, which will have two distinct sections: animal sheltering and animal control services. “Longview is taking the lead on that, and we’d had at least 2 or 3 meetings here. It’s been a few months ago about just preliminary discussions about moving forward on something,” he said.
According to the sheriff’s staff, four cities and the county are participating in the Interlocal Agreement process; Kalama historically handles its own services and had not joined as of the discussion. “Everybody’s participated except Calama,” the sheriff’s staff said, noting the ILA sign-ups were in progress and that the participants who sign will proceed to a joint RFP.
Ending: Staff asked the board to support the interlocal process and to approve the county’s participation when the ILA appears on the consent agenda; no formal action was taken in the briefing.
