The Southside Independent School District Board on Wednesday authorized the superintendent to sign an engagement letter and finalize the estimated cost with the auditing firm the board selected for the 2024–25 fiscal-year audit.
Dan Garza reported the purchasing department conducted a request-for-qualifications process and interviews; three firms responded, one firm did not attend the interview, and Garza said Garza Gonzales was the highest-ranked firm following tabulation of score sheets. The board approved authority for the superintendent to negotiate and sign the engagement letter.
The nut graf: The action allows district staff to execute the standard engagement letter with the selected firm and finalize audit cost estimates, enabling the external audit for fiscal 2024–25 to proceed on schedule. Trustee Lisa Salazar recorded an abstention on the motion; other trustees voted in favor.
The motion passed in open session; staff will return with the finalized engagement letter and estimated audit fee as required.
