Board approves $558,967 in curriculum and digital instruction purchases

The Southside Independent School District Board on Wednesday approved issuing purchase orders to continue multiple curriculum and digital-instruction contracts totaling $558,967.17.
Purchasing manager Dan Garza summarized vendor-by-vendor amounts: Curriculum Associates ($239,134.39) for K–8 math and reading intervention (i-Ready), Sirius Education Solutions ($53,340) for STAR intervention and tutoring, Sharon Wells ($79,952) for math curriculum materials (reduced due to elimination of an eighth-grade math product), Discovery Education ($95,415) for K–8 science, and Renaissance MyON ($91,132.78) for a districtwide digital library. Assistant Superintendent Castillo told trustees the increases reflected enrollment growth, site-license tier changes and added middle-school science courses.
The nut graf: The purchases were presented as continuations of existing programs used for Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction, intervention, pre/post testing and to provide supplemental digital resources; staff said materials align with the district’s comprehensive needs assessment and campus improvement plans.
Assistant Superintendent Castillo said i-Ready provides longitudinal data for intervention and helps with state assessment growth tracking. "We believe that the purchasing of these instructional materials will help with the upward trajectory and continued growth as seen here at Southside ISD," Castillo said.
The board voted to approve the combined purchases; trustees did not add conditions to the approvals. Staff will proceed to issue purchase orders through existing cooperative awards and contracts.
