Board approves up-to-$70,000 annual propane purchase from Ferrellgas for district buses

The Southside Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved administration’s request to purchase propane from Ferrellgas on an as-needed basis, with an annual estimated cap of $70,000.
Purchasing staff Dan Garza told trustees the district sought the Ferrellgas pricing through the Allied States cooperative contract because it offered lower cost and additional monitoring features. "The propane will be used for school district buses that operate through propane," Garza said.
The nut graf: The contract is intended to supply propane for the transportation fleet’s propane buses and was presented as a cost-saving change from the district’s current provider, AmeriGas. The board moved and passed the purchase in open session.
During the motion and roll call, trustees recorded affirmative votes from Bridal Olivares, Mary Belanger Robles, Katie Farias, Margarita Morales Garcia, Lisa Salazar, Mary Silva and Jesse Hernandez. The motion was seconded and approved; the board did not record amendments or conditions to the contract during the meeting.
The purchase will be executed through the cooperative contract and implemented by the transportation department; Kevin Nafee, the district’s transportation director, was present to answer questions.
