Grammy award-winning traditional blues singer Cedric Burnside headlined the tenth annual Barbecue Blues and Brews festival at Heart And Soul Park, a CRA-sponsored event that showcased recent renovations in the city’s historic Northwest, Sheryl Conn of WPB TV reported.
The festival featured two bands playing classic rhythm-and-blues hits and drew attendees to their feet early in the evening. “Y'all a little Mississippi Hill Country Blues. Hope you like it, and it's alright to dance a little bit,” Cedric Burnside said from the stage.
Organizers and the CRA used the event to spotlight changes in the neighborhood across from the festival site, including the newly renovated Sunset Lounge and the Styx Promenade. Event announcers also said the Sixth Promenade on Seventh Street will mark its grand opening on Aug. 1, and that concerts tied to the promenade are expected to begin in October.
Food, drinks and other items were sold by local vendors along the event perimeter, and West Palm Beach police handed out popcorn to attendees. Toward the end of the night, event hosts announced an award for West Palm Beach’s best barbecue.
Sheryl Conn, reporting for WPB TV, provided the event coverage. The segment did not specify attendance figures or the full schedule for the upcoming promenade concerts.
