Residents press township over recurring drainage and driveway erosion on Jacob Arnold Road

Residents of Jacob Arnold Road pressed the Township Committee Wednesday over recurring drainage that they said is eroding soil, sinking curb stone and damaging driveways.
Candy Wong said the stormwater problem flowed down her driveway during heavy rains, has eroded soil under the Belgian block and cracked the driveway. "I don't have $30,000 to put in a new driveway," Wong told the committee during public comment. Another resident described a longstanding gully adjacent to their property that has backed up and cannot drain to the storm sewer without excavation.
Township staff responded that the matter is under review. Tim, a township staff member, said he would check with the engineer and have a follow‑up at the beginning of next week. Committee members suggested temporary measures — including asking the Department of Public Works to place an asphalt berm as an interim fix — and said the engineering department would assess whether fuller repairs or a budget request are needed. Officials cautioned that many road and drainage projects require inclusion in the annual budget and that more extensive work may take time to schedule.
What the township will do: Officials accepted residents’ documentation (a video on a USB) for evaluation, said staff would inspect the site and promised an update. If full repairs are required and are not in the current year’s budget, staff said the project would be scheduled in accordance with municipal budgeting cycles.
