The City Commission on June 17 approved an industrial facilities tax exemption certificate for Yonkers Aircraft Corporation for property in Industrial Development District Number 36 at 15955 South Airport Road.
Joe Clement, director of operations for Waco and Junkers (Yonkers) Aircraft, told the commission the company is constructing a new 45,000‑square‑foot facility and expects to open an approximately $9 million factory in August 2025 to support a new aircraft line. "We're building a 45,000 square foot facility to house our new aircraft line," Clement said, and said the project would add more than 40 jobs. He described prior expansion in 2021 that increased jobs from about 22 to over 70 and an earlier $25 million investment by the company.
Why it matters: The exemption is intended to support local manufacturing investment and job creation; the staff report estimated an investment of approximately $8.9 million for the current expansion. The commission approved Resolution 170 authorizing the industrial facilities tax exemption certificate.
What the commission did: Resolution 170 authorizing the IFT exemption was approved. Commissioners expressed support for the investment and praised the company’s presence at the airport.
Discussion vs. decision: The public hearing included company remarks describing the investment and jobs; the formal decision was approval of the IFT exemption certificate.
