Pennsauken officials announce Memorial Day service, pool memberships, senior events and summer programs

Deputy Mayor Raffae invited residents to a Memorial Day service scheduled for Sunday, May 25 at noon at Liberty Park on Merchantville Avenue to honor local veterans. Committee members announced that the township's Special Olympics young-athletes program is underway and thanked head coach Jacqueline Hunt and volunteers; they also said Western Extrusions agreed to be the official corporate sponsor for the township's fall festival. Committee members encouraged local businesses to contact Parks and Recreation for sponsorship details.
Officials reminded residents that yard debris must be placed in paper bags (not plastic) for collection and that paper bags are available at the public-works building. The committee announced a Senior Citizens Appreciation Day on June 5 at the Pennsauken Municipal Pool and said pool memberships are available for purchase at the municipal building; the pool opens Memorial Day weekend, will be weekends-only until June 21, and then operate daily through Labor Day.
Summer programs and camps were promoted, including sports camps and a Junior Fire and EMS Academy; committee members noted the programs are run by local instructors and partners and encouraged early registration. Committee member Camille Martinez described the summer schedule and emphasized that some camps include sports and robotics and are led by instructors from local institutions.
For the township's first Juneteenth event the committee announced a celebration on June 14 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and said staff are seeking vendors and food trucks; residents were directed to contact Juan Vasquez (phone number provided during the meeting) for vendor information. Committee members also reminded seniors that aqua aerobics and a summer dance program will return and that registration information will be posted soon.
