The council appointed Lindsay Hakala to the Livonia Zoning Board of Appeals for a three‑year term, following a split vote of 4–3.
Councilwoman Budzinski nominated Hakala, noting she is an engineer and architect who works for OHM and has served on the Livonia Historical Commission since 2019. Several council members praised the nominee’s technical background.
Councilman Donovan opposed the appointment, saying he wished to retain incumbent Chris Bolivin, a long‑serving ZBA member and land‑use attorney. After the vote, Bolivin addressed the council to thank members and to say he valued his time on the board.
The clerk recorded roll-call votes: Scheele and Morgan voted no; Toy, Tashnick, Budzinski and McCullough voted yes; Donovan voted no. The motion carried 4–3. The new appointment will run through June 12, 2028.
Why it matters: ZBA appointments shape the municipal body that adjudicates variances and land-use appeals; the narrow vote reflects differing council views about experience and board composition.
