The Livonia Housing Commission asked the council to approve a bond resolution authorizing issuance of up to $10,000,000 in limited tax general obligation bonds to acquire, construct and equip approximately 100 housing units for low‑ and moderate‑income seniors.
Jim Mingles of the Livonia Housing Commission told council that the January notice of intent for the bonds had been published without negative comments over the 45‑day comment period and that subsequent steps include selecting architectural and engineering teams and returning to council for site plan approval. "The next step would be for the city council to approve the attached bond resolution ... to move forward with this project," Mingles said; the Housing Commission expects to issue bonds late summer or early fall after additional steps.
A councilmember asked to have the bond resolution placed on the regular meeting agenda rather than the consent list; the item was set for the June 16 regular meeting. No final bond issuance took place at the study session; council will consider the formal bond resolution and contractor selections at future meetings.
