Lowell School Committee approves donation of 14 sick days for district school psychologist

The Lowell City School Committee voted unanimously June 30 to accept a donation of 14 sick days from the Lowell School Administration Association to benefit a district school psychologist.

The motion, offered by School Committee member Constance Martin and seconded by School Committee member Doherty, passed on a 7-0 roll-call vote during the special meeting in the City Council Chamber.

The donation was described in the agenda under “professional personnel 5.1.” The motion text on the record stated: “The members of the Lowell School Administration Association hereby donate 14 sick days to a ma Martinez Schula, DOE School psychologist.” The transcript shows the recipient name in that motion as "ma Martinez Schula," which is how it is recorded in the meeting minutes; the committee did not provide an alternative spelling on the record.

Committee members recorded as voting “yes” on the roll call were: Mister Lay, Miss Martin, Mayor (recorded as O'Rourke/Roark in the transcript), Mister Bahu, Mister Conway, Mister Rossi and Mister Doherty. The clerk announced the tally as seven yeas and the motion carried.

The agenda also noted that Section 4 would be moved to the next school committee meeting; no other substantive personnel actions or public discussion were recorded during the portion of the meeting addressing the sick-days donation.
