The Dearborn City Council on Tuesday approved two parks-related contracts: a $331,674.50 purchase of picnic tables and a $64,000 contract for interior renovations at Hemlock Park's historic cabin.
Parks staff said the picnic-table order from RJ Thomas Manufacturing Company includes 50 six-foot composite picnic tables, eight ADA-compliant six-foot tables and 50 ten-foot tables. Staff recommended the composite tables for durability and noted each table carries a 50-year warranty. The council also authorized a $400,000 transfer from the facility fund to the general capital improvement fund to fund the project and requested that the transfer be recognized and appropriated in project I29724.
Separately, the council awarded a $64,000 contract to Key Construction LLC to renovate the Hemlock Park cabin's interior, work that will include new flooring, ceiling tiles, paint, siding and a back patio door to improve function and appearance. Staff noted the historic cabin dates to the 1940s and described the work as "much needed."
Both measures passed without recorded opposition; council members asked staff to coordinate procurement, scheduling and installation to minimize park disruption during summer use.
