Council approves food-truck ordinance updates aligning propane and licensing rules with zoning

The Dearborn City Council on Tuesday adopted amendments to the city's food-truck ordinance to align local licensing and safety requirements with a zoning ordinance the council approved in April.
The ordinance, adopted on final reading, adds propane regulations consistent with the new food-truck park zoning and references applicable fire guidelines. The update also requires the city clerk to retain a copy of each licensee's state license for the duration of the local license and clarifies distinctions between different types of mobile food establishments.
"The key amendments include incorporating propane regulations consistent with new zoning ordinance reference applicable to a fire to our fire quote guidelines," a staff summary said. Council members recorded unanimous support for the final reading.
The changes are intended to close regulatory gaps between the licensing chapter and the zoning code the council adopted April 22 and to make the ordinance easier to navigate for businesses and enforcement staff. The clerk's office will retain state licensing documentation as part of local licensing records going forward.
