The Deming Public Schools Board of Education on Monday, June 30 approved the district’s IDEA‑B application and an updated handbook of special-education procedures for the 2025–26 school year.
Staff presented the IDEA‑B application and the handbook, prepared by Walsh Gallegos, to the board and offered to answer questions. A district representative told the board there were no major procedural changes from the prior year and that the updates were primarily language and housekeeping changes and updates to resource listings.
"There were not, any major changes that I believe were included in your board packet," a district staff member said, describing the handbook changes as updates to language and resource references and noting the document is reviewed annually.
Following the presentation, a motion to approve the IDEA‑B application and the handbook was moved and seconded. Board members recorded on the transcript as voting yes — Mrs. Gallen, Mrs. Crumley and Mr. Crow — voted to approve the application and handbook.
The board did not discuss specific funding figures, programmatic changes, or implementation timelines during the meeting. Staff said the handbook is updated at the start of each year and that the district will submit required materials for federal IDEA Part B funding as part of the standard annual process.
The board scheduled its next regular meeting for July 17, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Emmett Shockley Administration Building.
