Deming board approves RFP 24-18 for special-education interpretation services, awards contract to Adelante Educational Services LLC

The Deming Public Schools Board of Education on Monday, June 30 approved RFP 24-18 to secure interpretation services for special-education evaluations and IEP meetings and awarded the contract to Adelante Educational Services LLC.

Board Vice President Crumley said the item was presented by district staff and moved for approval after a staff explanation of the services. The contract award covers interpretation of diagnostic reports used in individualized education program (IEP) meetings so the district can confirm eligibility determinations.

Melissa Minas, assistant director of the district’s special education services, told the board the RFP split services into two parts: the evaluations and an interpretational section. "When our reports come back, we have a diagnostician on our IEP meetings to interpret the data and make sure we... get the correct eligibility," Minas said, describing why the interpretation contract is needed.

District staff recommended awarding the interpretive portion of RFP 24-18 to Adelante Educational Services LLC. After brief discussion and no additional public questions, a motion to approve the RFP was moved and seconded; board members identified on the record — Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Crumley and Mr. Crowley — voted yes and the motion carried.

The board did not discuss contract dollar amounts or term details during the public presentation. The district previously reported that the evaluation portion of the RFP had been awarded at an earlier meeting; this action covered the interpretational services only.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for July 17, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Emmett Shockley Administration Building.
