Cheshire High educators refer 10-day student trip to Italy to Board for approval

Presenters said parents must sign an out‑of‑country waiver that shifts cancellation costs to the family if the trip is canceled; families may purchase supplemental insurance to recoup more costs if they choose. District staff noted the U.S. Department of State travel advisory for Italy was listed at level 2, “exercise increased caution,” and said the district would continue to monitor any change before final approval.
In discussion, organizers described planned cultural and educational activities, including museum visits, a pizza‑making demonstration and a digital art connection with a previously used tour leader. They said the same tour company and guide who led prior trips would be used and that the program includes curricular links for students.
A motion was made at the meeting to bring the trip request to the Board of Education floor for consideration; the motion was moved and seconded during the meeting but final district approval was not decided there. The meeting record indicates scheduling and deposit deadlines remain to be verified before the Board takes action.
District staff and presenters said they will keep parents updated on the travel advisory and on any deposit or insurance deadlines if the Board places the request on an agenda.
