Board names new principals and assistant principals, honors retirees and TEAM completers

The Middletown Board of Education opened its June 17 meeting with a series of district recognitions and personnel announcements.
Doctor Vasquez Matos introduced Alicia Carter as the new principal of Wesley Elementary School for the 2025–26 school year. Matos and Carter detailed Carter’s 27 years of experience in the district and her leadership roles, including interim principal and blended-learning coach. “We are confident that her deep understanding of elementary education coupled with her proven leadership will be an incredible asset,” Vasquez Matos said.
The board also announced the appointment of Meg Hanley as assistant principal at Beaman Middle School and recognized championships and spring-season accomplishments in athletics, including state-level success for the ultimate Frisbee team.
The board recognized 10 teachers who completed the state-mandated TEAM (Teacher Education and Mentoring) program and honored a list of 2025 retirees for their years of service to district schools.
In other personnel news, board members approved a UConn discrete-math early-college course for the high school as an additional option for students.
Ending Administrators said new hires will be introduced to school communities over the summer and that the district will share more details about the 2025–26 instructional year in August.
