Facilities report: Transition Academy work progressing; Sheehan and Cookeville boiler work under contract review

Facilities staff updated the operations committee Monday on several projects: adult education and the Wallingford Transition Academy work is progressing, boiler replacements at Sheehan and Cookeville are under contract review while Stevens’ boiler-room demolition is complete and crews are preparing for new boilers.

Mister Deptula, facilities staff, told the committee the adult-education site on Fairfield Boulevard and work at the Transition Academy have substantial remaining tasks but are moving forward. On Sheehan and Cookeville, the contractor that won the jobs has requested an American Institute of Architects (AIA) or other payment agreement; the district’s legal team and the vendor are working to resolve that request. Deptula said he did not expect the contract-review issue to affect construction schedules.

Deptula reported Stevens’ boiler replacement is progressing, with demolition finished and site preparation under way; he said new boilers are expected in a matter of weeks. He also said he had communicated with a resident about poison-ivy and overhanging limbs near Fritz School and described what the district can and cannot do; work will not be undertaken until after graduation events. On pavement concerns at the Sheehan driveway entrance, Deptula said the district inspects and patches pavement several times a year and will review and address the area prior to the start of school.

No formal action was taken; the committee heard the status updates and asked follow-up questions about scheduling and legal review. Facilities staff will continue to coordinate with legal and contractors and will return with schedule updates if needed.
