Danbury moves to register as Connecticut teacher apprentice program; partnerships aim to expand pipeline

Administrators said the district received seed money through the state eGrants system to support up to five apprentice teachers with WestConn this year and additional slots from another program (Connecticut TRP), with a tentative total of about eight apprenticeship placements for the next year; staff also cited an intended partnership to support roughly four apprentices with UConn.
The district said the apprentice model pairs mentor teachers with apprentices over an academic year and is intended to attract both early-career candidates and mid-career professionals seeking to transition into teaching. Officials said the application was nearly complete and expected to be wrapped up in the week following the meeting so the district could be an official registered program.
