Danbury schools honored for communications; Danbury High robotics team finishes second at world championship

The Danbury Board of Education on an evening meeting presented two communications awards to the district and recognized Danbury High School robotics team 5150Z for finishing second at the world championship in Dallas.
Tina Malhotra, representing the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) Area 5 and identified as Richfield Board of Education chair, presented the district with two Bonnie B. Carney awards for excellence in educational communications for the district budget book and a welcome packet. "I'm very happy to present the Danbury Public Schools with these awards," Malhotra said, citing criteria such as clarity of message, readability, graphics and presentation design.
The board also recognized the Danbury High School robotics team 5150Z and their coach, Eric Savoisky, after the team advanced to the finals at the world competition in Dallas and finished second out of 9,535 teams worldwide. Coach Eric Savoisky said the accomplishment capped a three‑year effort, noting the students reached the 10,000‑seat “dome” where division champions compete and finished as one of the top teams in the world. Several seniors on the team were publicly introduced by name and future college plans were noted during the recognition.
The board, superintendent and attendees posed with the award recipients and the students for photos. The recognitions were presented near the start of the board meeting during the superintendent’s remarks.
