Board awards contract for Waveny Park main-trail reconstruction

The Board of Selectmen approved a contract and purchase order on June 17 to reconstruct a section of the main trail at Waveny Park. The low bidder, Peter Lonnie Incorporated, was awarded a contract for $40,775 and the board authorized a contingency of $4,000 (10 percent) for a total project authorization of $44,775.
The work covers the main trail entering Waveny Park from the South Avenue entrance and extends roughly 1,600 feet toward the Merritt Parkway/Exit 37 entrance. DPW staff said the scope includes three planned drainage crossings to address persistent ponding near the South Avenue access and noted work on spurs would be evaluated in the field during construction.
The board discussed contingency levels and agreed to a 10 percent contingency rather than a larger allowance, noting the DPW’s historical average of contingency use has been much lower. DPW said construction would not begin before August or September and that the Conservancy is planning complementary work on an adjacent trail section.
The motion to approve the contract and PO passed unanimously.
