After reviewing roughly 100 resumés and conducting successive interview rounds, staff recommended hiring Michael Damani, described as a CDL‑licensed paving and plowing operator with prior work at P and S Paving, and Robert Collins, formerly an assistant director at a country day school with crew‑lead, snow removal and OSHA experience. The board approved both hires as Groundsman 2; the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, staff requested and the board approved a transfer for Michael Sciano, currently working at the transfer station, to move from Equipment Operator 3 to Scale Operator so he can cover multiple station duties. That motion was also approved unanimously.
Why it matters: The hires replace two long‑serving field employees and are intended to keep seasonal and year‑round operations staffed. Staff noted they reviewed many applicants, interviewed 15, then brought finalists back for second interviews before making offers.
What’s next: New hires were expected to start as soon as possible; the board’s approvals allow the department to onboard the new employees and continue coverage during the summer.
