Meeting participants said the city’s human resources director is currently on vacation and will, upon return, assemble the fire chief job description and lay out a process for the board’s search committee to meet and review the qualifications. The board noted the charter specifies that priority should be given to internal candidates; the search committee is to review education and experience qualifications and any additional criteria the board wishes to include before posting the position.
Board members indicated the review could require more than one hour but expected the committee to complete the review before the job posting is released. The action taken at the special meeting was to appoint Tripp as interim chief; no permanent appointment or hire was made at this session.
