The restaurant, brought into the terminal by concessionaire SSP America, was celebrated during remarks from Scott Welding of SSP America and owners Armando and Nadia, who described the airport location as a milestone for their decade-long business. Chad Makovsky said Sky Harbor serves “over a 150,000 travelers a day,” and that the airport looks to blend national, regional and local food options for passengers.
“Over a 150,000 travelers a day that come through our airport. We want them to have a taste of Arizona,” Makovsky said. Scott Welding said the concession team was “more excited” to open the location and thanked Phoenix Aviation staff and the Tacos Chihuahua team. Nadia said, “This location isn't just another restaurant for us. It is a symbol of how far we've come.”
The ceremony included acknowledgements of teams and contractors involved in the concession rollout: Haile Collective (design), Brian Timothy (general contractor), and several SSP America staff members named at the event. Makovsky named Sarah Demery, chief operating officer, and Roxanne Favors, chief revenue officer, as part of the aviation team that helped bring the concept to the airport. A mariachi band performed and SSP provided tasting samples after the ribbon cutting.
The event was a ceremonial opening and did not record any formal City of Phoenix approvals or votes during the program. No lease, contract award, budget action or regulatory decision was announced during the remarks; the ceremony focused on the concession’s launch and recognition of partners and staff.
