Caroline, the student liaison, delivered her final report to the Elwood Union Free School District Board of Education, summarizing end-of-year celebrations across the district and thanking administrators who supported her year in the role.
In her report, Caroline said June had been “a month filled with celebration, reflection, and excitement,” citing kindergarten planting projects at Harley Avenue Primary School, field days at multiple schools, a June 9 shield ceremony that paired kindergarten students with graduating seniors, musical performances including a production of Finding Nemo, and athletics achievements at John Glenn High School. She also thanked school leaders by name for their support and said, “Since ninth grade, I have dreamed of being all school president and be able to come and do this job. And to know that I accomplished that goal is truly special to me.”
The report noted specific accomplishments: Harley Avenue students planting flower beds and taking part in Spirit Day; second-graders’ museum visits and moving-up celebrations; Elwood Middle School’s recognition as a School of Distinction by the Association for Middle Level Education; John Glenn music ensembles earning top ratings at the Music in the Parks Festival; and county championships won by John Glenn track athletes, who will compete at the state level.
Assistant Principal Mr. McNamara praised Caroline’s leadership and said she helped create an environment “where students feel comfortable enough to speak out for what they believe in.” Board members and administrators expressed thanks for her monthly reports and wished her well as she passes the liaison role to Peter Bell.
Caroline closed by expressing gratitude to principals, assistant principals and to Mr. McNamara for supporting her work; the board and audience applauded. The district also announced upcoming events and final exams schedules as schools close the year.
