District’s PLC outlines staff-development focus on collaboration, curriculum and technology

The Homer Central School District's Professional Learning Committee (PLC) reported priorities for next year's staff-development days at the board meeting Thursday, a PLC representative said.
A PLC representative identified four primary focus areas recommended to the Instructional Leadership Council (ILC): structured department and grade-level collaboration time; curriculum-development work tied to district initiatives; strategies linked to elements of the district's strategic plan; and increased technology-integration support for classroom teachers.
The PLC representative said that repeated requests for additional instructional-technology assistance had made technology integration a priority and that PLC will prioritize how district staff and technology specialists can support teachers. The committee also highlighted ongoing efforts to better support English-language learners across content areas, noting that ELL teachers are prepared to provide classroom support and coaching.
The representative said PLC operates as a subcommittee of the ILC and that the staff-development calendar is "driven by our staff for our staff," adding the committee would not meet again until September and that the report provided a high-level outline of staff-development priorities.
Board members thanked committee participants for the work and for providing a master list of end-of-year celebrations from administrators earlier in the meeting.
