The Sebastian City Council approved two airport-related lease actions: a ninth amendment to the Whelan Aerospace lease to relinquish two office spaces in the airport terminal building, and a new lease for an aviation check‑ride specialist to occupy one of the vacated spaces.
Airport staff described the changes as a consolidation by the existing tenant (Whelan Aerospace) that frees a hardened office space the city has equipped for emergency operations. "They were willing to amend their lease to consolidate their space, free up the second half of the room that is actually hardened and built for this purpose," said Mister Sabo. Council approved the lease amendment by motion and roll call.
Staff also presented a new lease for an aviation check‑ride specialist to occupy one of the spaces vacated by Whelan Aerospace. Mister Sabo said the new tenant will provide testing, check rides and recurrency training for student and existing pilots and will serve a broader coastal area. Council moved and seconded approval and recorded unanimous yes votes in roll call.
One councilmember raised a technical question about an exhibit referencing the lease rate and section numbering; staff clarified that the dollar amount for the lease rate appears in section 4 of the exhibit. No public speakers commented on either lease item at the meeting.
