Mayor Brindle said the $25 figure is a “not to exceed” cap and does not reflect the price that will be set; she said the town will not charge $25 and that the measure preserves flexibility for future adjustments. The council noted the current $5 daily rate has been in place for decades.
Officials said new parking-permit software is nearly integrated and will allow daily passes and permits to be purchased online, including the ability to buy a daily pass the night before. The software will also let town staff allocate more daily passes to underused lots — officials specifically cited plans to begin selling daily passes in the Watterson Street lot to increase daily permit availability.
Councilman Dardia moved the ordinance (general ordinance number 2025-14) on first reading; the roll-call vote carried. The council said a broader parking and pricing review will take place later in the summer and that final per-day pricing will be set after that review.
No immediate change to the $5 daily fee was announced; councilors said the ordinance’s point is to enable flexible, smarter parking management as commuting patterns evolve.
