Spencer County Fiscal Court approved a one-year contract on May 19 with Bullitt County to house county prisoners at a rate of $32 per inmate per day, effective through June 30, 2026.
County staff told the court that the county previously paid higher rates to other counties and that Bullitt County offered a lower price. The county estimated savings of roughly $4,000 per month if average nightly inmate counts remain around the current average of about 1,000 inmate nights per month as discussed in the meeting.
A motion by Commissioner Dan, seconded by Commissioner Zach, to approve the agreement passed by voice vote. Judge Travis said the contract will reduce detention costs and noted the jailer in Bullitt County had already agreed to the arrangement.
The court did not amend other contract terms during the meeting; county staff said the agreement will run for one year and staff will monitor costs and inmate volumes.
