Spencer County approves up to $50,000 to pave recycling center area and related parking

Spencer County Fiscal Court on May 19 approved a motion to blacktop the recycling center parking area and related surfaces, authorizing county staff to proceed with work not to exceed $50,000.
County Judge Scott Travis described bids received for blacktopping the recycling site and adjacent parking, and presented a site map showing Spears Lane, the recycling center and the EMS garage parking. The court discussed scope options and additional tonnage for the work; a contractor estimate in the meeting materials put a total for one configuration at roughly $50,100 and an additional $7,000 for another section in front of the EMS garage.
After discussion about funding sources and whether specific city streets should be included, the court approved a motion by Commissioner Mike, seconded by Commissioner Zach, to proceed with paving work "not to exceed $50,000," excluding some city-owned streets, and to take the money from capital project lines. The motion passed by voice vote.
Judge Travis said staff will coordinate contract details, that the county may count some previous capital project balances toward the work, and that the project would be scheduled promptly to use fiscal-year pricing in the contractor—s bid.
