Representatives of the Boys & Girls Club updated the Letcher County Fiscal Court on local program openings and plans for expanded programming.
Katina Hanks, appearing as the club’s presenter, said the organization experienced delays this year but aims to open a recreation facility by January 2026. Hanks reported that clubs opened in August the previous year at two school sites and that the program has shown positive results in student grades and school buy-in. She said funds from a closing club will be transferred so children served there can continue in nearby programs.
A club staff member described planned summer themes — including a Disney week and a STEM week that will emphasize hands-on science activities and one-on-one attention for participants. The presenters thanked the fiscal court for prior support and asked for continued assistance; no formal appropriation request or vote was recorded at this meeting.
Court members acknowledged the update and said they look forward to receiving future attendance and fiscal figures when available.
