Bayshore High School and the Bay Shore Union Free School District celebrated the Class of 2025 at a commencement ceremony that recognized graduates, alumni honorees and district leaders. Speakers at the ceremony included Superintendent Dr. Steven Maloney; Board of Education Vice President Susan Gargan; salutatorian Lamia Ali; valedictorian Amelia Kasten; and senior class president Leanda Celestine. The program included the Pledge of Allegiance, the Star-Spangled Banner performed by the concert choir, and the Bayshore alma mater.
The ceremony honored members of the classes of 1975 and 1950 with honorary diplomas; Board Vice President Susan Gargan presented an honorary diploma to a 1950 graduate. Superintendent Dr. Steven Maloney and district leaders were acknowledged for their roles in preparing students. The program also recognized retiring faculty and staff by name and singled out seniors who plan to enter military service.
Student speeches emphasized community, diversity and perseverance. Salutatorian Lamia Ali reflected on Bayshore’s diversity and the role of mentorship for immigrant students; valedictorian Amelia Kasten spoke about kindness, mindset and pursuing meaningful goals; and senior class president Leanda Celestine urged classmates to recognize their achievements and to move their tassels to the left to signify graduation. The ceremony included musical performances by the school choir and band and concluded with the conferring of diplomas and a recessional.
Long lists of graduating students were read during the ceremony; the transcript includes the names of the graduates called to the stage. The district and school leadership thanked families, faculty, staff and volunteers for their contributions to the graduates’ education. No formal board actions, votes, ordinances, or policy decisions were part of the recorded program.
