The Finance Administration Committee approved a $5,000 budget amendment on June 24 to cover Parks and Recreation community events, including a planned food-truck festival and a potential additional movie night.
Bureau Manager Maggie Dobbs, reporting the borough’s budget position, said the money will be moved from a professional services line that is currently underspent and earmarked for consultants. “So what I'm suggesting is we take $5,000 from that line item and move it to our recreation and special events,” Dobbs said. She added the amount should cover one additional movie night plus the food-truck festival and some small supplies for other planned park events.
Dobbs said the movie-night cost for an earlier event was about $1,500 for screen rental and licensing. She described the amendment as intended to keep the events “revenue neutral” and to give Parks and Rec modest flexibility to provide family-friendly activities across borough parks. The committee discussed that Parks and Rec should still be conservative in spending; Dobbs noted the department does not have to spend the full $5,000 and that council expects an itemized events budget during the fall budget process.
Committee members voted 3–0 to approve the transfer. No public comment was made on the amendment during the meeting.
The amendment will be reflected in the borough’s current-year budget, and staff said the item will be used to cover costs already incurred and to support possible additional events before next year’s budget cycle.
