Helotes — The Helotes City Council on June 26 approved a site plan, building concept, and associated signage for a proposed Take 5 oil-change facility, with a specific condition: the council directed that Sign G (the exit sign) be changed to a directional “Exit only” on both sides rather than include an audible/novelty message.
Council discussion began with a P&Z concern about an exit sign that included a honk/thank-you element. Council member Sanders told the council the P&Z review had flagged the sign as not constituting traffic control and questioned whether the audible message was standard. The applicant’s representative on Zoom, Jackie Saint Juice, said removing the honk/thank-you element “doesn’t really really hurt us too much” and that other Take 5 locations have removed that sign for noise reasons.
Council member Sanders made a motion to approve item 8 as written except that Sign G be modified to read “Exit only” on both sides; the motion was seconded and the council approved it by voice vote. The applicant on Zoom was congratulated after the vote.
The planning record shows P&Z had previously reviewed and recommended the site concept; the council’s conditional approval requires the applicant to update the sign details in final site plans and permits.
